GNFC’s “Neem Project” wins the ABP News and Global CSR Award 2016 for Women Empowerment

Awards recognize GNFC’s push towards empowering the women in its community by livelihood generation, economic value addition for the societal good.

Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilisers & Chemicals (GNFC) won the prestigious ABP News and Global CSR Awards in the category of Women Empowerment for its contributions to providing livelihood to rural women in 2016. The award recognizes the company’s contribution in upliftment of women and girls by developing and implementing transparent, sustainable and pragmatic socio-economic programs such as the Neem Project.

The “Neem Project” has been active in 22 districts across 4000 villages in Gujarat. GNFC’s approach has been lauded in the UNDP Impact Assessment Survey which concluded that there has been significant decrease in domestic violence, increase in asset creation and education expenditure. It is an example to be emulated in community-led transformation laying a strong foundation for community building.

GNFC won from among 200 applicants for Global CSR and 150 in ABP News Awards. Applicants include SMEs, Public, Private, Government Enterprises and NGOs for the year 2016.

The ABP News and Global CSR Awards were established by World CSR Institute. They follows a rigorous 3 level procedure of shortlisting and selection. The selection is done by independent assessors comprising experts in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility. A total of 30 applications was shortlisted, who presented in front of the Grand Jury on 4th February 2017. Among these, GNFC was selected as the winner for its outstanding contribution in women empowerment through CSR for the year 2016.

The ABP News award was given to GNFC by Dr. Michelle Reina PhD and Dr. Dennis Reina PhD, founders of A Trust Building Consultancy, USA, which works towards building and rebuilding trust in workplace, on the 6th edition of World CSR Day ceremony organized at the Hotel Taj Lands End in Mumbai, India on 17th February 2017. The event was attended by global CSR leaders from over 30 countries.

The following day, 18th February 2017, Global CSR award for contributions to women empowerment through the “Neem Project” was given away to GNFC at the hands of Mr. Jordan Reeves, Consul General Canada. In the presence of Hon’ble Akila Viraj Karuyawasam, M.P., Minister of Education, Srilanka of Dr. R L Bhatia, founder of World CSR, who congratulated GNFC on its awe-inspiring efforts towards the upliftment of rural poor in Gujarat.

The Neem Project was appreciated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister for the positive impact on the indigenous people of of Gujarat. It was recently awarded the ‘Golden Peacock Award’ for Corporate Social Responsibility 2016, ‘SKOCH order-of-merit’ award and the ‘SKOCH Blue Economy Platinum Sustainability Award 2016’. Dr. Rajiv Kumar Gupta (IAS), Managing Director, GNFC was awarded the ‘SKOCH Blue Economy Person of the Year Award’ for conceiving, designing and managing the Neem Project.
