Inauguration of India's First 100% Cashless Township-GNFC Township by Hon'ble Chief Minister

GNFC Township is First integrated township of the country where 100% transactions are carried out  by cashless means.  So much so that Paan shop, Laundry shop, Cycle repairing shop, Barber shop and flour mill all run through transactions by PoS machines and E-wallets like BHIM, UPI, SBI buddy, etc.

The first 100% Cashless Township of India - GNFC Township was launched by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat Shri VijaybhaiRupani on 13th February 2017 at Bharuch. On this occatsion Central Labour & Employment Minister Shri Bandaru Dattatreya and MLAs from various regions were also present.  The integrated Township of GNFC has a population of around 5,000 and floating population of around 10,000 every day. It has facilities like a big Shopping Center, Restaurants, Eateries, Schools and Colleges, Hospital, Stadium, Guest House, etc.
This has been achieved by way of a sustained mass campaign and engagement of all stake holders in training of digital transactions, establishment of required infrastructure and necessary business process engineering by top GNFC management. Even the trucks carrying raw material to the company and taking finished products like fertilizers and chemicals from the company have been mandated to use post fast/debit cards for payment of Toll Tax. Around 500 Trucks/Tankers/Vehicles go in and out of GNFC plant which remain cashless on national and state highways for Toll purposes. In a year, 1.8 lac trips by Trucks and other vehicles would be carried out by using cashless transactions.

NITI Ayog, Government of India has adopted GNFC’s 100% Cashless Township model for replication in other parts of the country. On 8th February, 2017, MD - GNFC Dr. Rajiv Kumar Gupta IAS was invited by CEO, NITI Ayog Shri Amitabh Kant to make a detailed presentation of 100% Cashless Township before senior Secretaries of Government of India from departments like Urban Development, Financial Services, Public Investments, Electronics, Defence, Ports, Fertilizers, etc. It has been decided that a massive campaign shall be launched by NITI Ayog from 1st March 2017 for two months to make the integrated Townships of Oil Refineries, major industries, Cantonments, Paramilitary Forces like CRPF, BSF, major Car Manufacturing companies and Fertilizer companies totaling over 1,000 with a population of a few crores to go 100% cashless. NITI Ayog will shortly issue guidelines and instructions based on GNFC model.

On this occasion Hon’ble Chief Minister informed that Gujarat Govt. has decided to adopt GNFC cashless model in 180 townships situated at Gujarat with immediate effect.  Out of these, 35 townships are located at Bharuch district. He appreciated dedication of GNFC team management and continuous co-operation and hard work by women of township residents, students as well as small business units, 100% cashless transactions are achieved which is a great illustration for a nation.

Speaking on the occasion Dr. Rajiv Kumar Gupta IAS Managing Director GNFC informed that pursuant to Hon’ble Prime Minister’s nationwide call for becoming a cashless society, under the able leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Vijaybhai Rupani the Gujarat of Govt has taken up the movement of cashless economy wherein GNFC Township has become 100% cashless township. This is a unique achievement.  In this herculean endeavor, along with GNFC management all residents of township, employees of GNFC & their family members, approx. 5000 students & teachers of all five educational institutions, all small business units have joined hands for this day when Hon’ble Chief Minister will declare GNFC Township as a 100% cashless township.

The Government of Gujarat has decided to replicate GNFC model in 180 integrated Townships with a total population of over 5 lac within the state of Gujarat. The CEO of NITI Ayog is expected to visit in the last week of February at the invitation of GNFC for this purpose.

GNFC is also the first Fertilizer company in the country to go cashless in sale of fertilizers. Through more than 2,000 retail outlets, GNFC has so far sold 18.10 lacs bags of fertilizers to 1.55 lac farmers through cashless transactions across the country.
