GNFC Neem Project wins the Global Giving Award for Best CSR Innovation Practices
Global Giving Award for Best CSR Innovation Practices recognizes GNFC’s strategy of synergising its CSR initiatives with national policies, for empowering women by livelihood generation.

Dubai, October 11: Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilisers & Chemicals Ltd(GNFC) won the prestigious Global Giving Award 2017 in the category of Best CSR Innovation Practices for its innovative Neem Project creating Shared Value for rural women under its CSR activities. The award recognizes the company’s contribution in uplifting of downtrodden women and girls by developing and implementing transparent, sustainable and pragmatic socio-economic programs such as the Neem Project.

The Neem project has been active in 53 districts across 5000 villages in six states of India. During the last three years, by collecting over 45,000MT of Neem seeds, more than INR 50 Crores income has been generated for around 4.5 lakh rural women and landless labourers. GNFC's approach has been lauded in the UNDP Impact Assessment Survey which concluded that there has been significant decrease in domestic violence, increased asset creation and education expenditure. It is an example to be emulated in community-led transformation laying a strong foundation for community building.

GNFC won from among 97 applicants for the Global Giving Award 2017 in the category of Best CSR Innovation Practices. Applicants include SMEs, Public, Private, Government Enterprises and NGOs for the year 2017.

The Global Giving Award 2017 were established by World CSR Institute to appreciate companies driven by the 4 Ps; People, Planet. Profit & Purpose. This year, the award was dedicated to Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, and ruler of the Emirate of Dubai.

World CSR has instituted a stringent 3 level procedure of shortlisting and selection. The selection is done by independent assessors comprising experts in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility. The set parameters included the quantified impact, cost-benefit balance, rigorous monitoring and evaluation procedures in place and scope for upscaling the CSR practices. Among these, GNFC was selected as the winner for its outstanding practices displayed in GNFC’s flagship CSR Project, Neem Project.

The Global Giving Award 2017 was conducted at The Address, Dubai Mall, Dubai, UAE on 11th October 2017. Many dignitaries such as His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Dr. R L Bhatia, founder of World CSR were present. GNFC’s Neem Project won the Global Giving Award 2017 in the category of Best CSR Innovation Practices, for its innovative approach to solving the problems at the community level, by creating a win-win situation for all stakeholders.

The Neem Project was appreciated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister for the positive impact on the indigenous people of India. On 8th October, Hon’ble Prime Minister launched Neem Project’s plants in Bharuch, Gujarat. Prior to the Global Giving Award, it was awarded the ‘Porter Prize’ by the eminent Harvard Business School Professor, Prof. Michael E. Porter, ‘Golden Peacock Award’ for Corporate Social Responsibility 2016 by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, India CSR Award by Hon. Union Minster Shri Athawale, and SKOCH award, apart from being widely covered by print and electronic media.
