˜ Focus sectors of the delegation were Chemicals and Petrochemicals; Energy; Education; Infrastructure Development; and Financial Services.

A high-level delegation from the Government of Gujarat led by Dr. Rajiv Kumar Gupta, IAS, Principal Secretary and MD GNFC and comprising of around 10 senior business leaders representing various sectors like Chemicals and Petrochemicals, Energy, Infrastructure Development, Education, Financial Services etc. received tremendous response during their visit to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar between October 03 -11, 2016.
The visit was planned as a follow-up on the key agendas discussed during Hon’ble Prime Minister’s visit to Saudi Arabia in April 2016 and to Qatar in June 2016, which opened new avenues for mutual cooperation and economic relations with the two countries.
The delegation had fruitful interactions with the members of Chambers of Commerce in Jeddah, Riyadh, Dammam, Kuwait and Qatar. Presenting Gujarat as an ideal destination for investment, Dr. Gupta emphasized the investor-supportive policies, single window clearance procedures, seamless business ecosystem, and the robust infrastructure that the state offers, making it one of the most sought after investment destinations.
The delegation also visited Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and met CEO of Islamic Corporation for the Development of the Private Sector (ICD) at IDB. It was mentioned by the CEO Mr. Khaled Al Aboodi that the Government of Gujarat delegation visit to ICD was first of its kind so far.
During the meeting with the members of the Council of Saudi Chambers, the official federation for the 28 Saudi Chambers in Riyadh, Mr. Kamel S. Al Munajjed, Chairman of the Saudi Indian Business Council mentioned that “it was the very first time we received a delegation from an Indian State”. The delegation met senior officials from Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (SAGIA) and discussed the mutual investment opportunities. Dr. Gupta proposed to have a Saudi Arabia country seminar during Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit to promote the investment opportunities in Saudi Arabia which was well accepted by the SAGIA officials.
During the delegation’s visit to Kuwait, several meetings were held with eminent business personalities and government officials, some of which include interactions with H.E. Khaled Al-Shamali, Undersecretary in the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Kuwait; H.E. Sheikh Yousef Abdullah Al Sabah, Director General of Kuwait Ports Authority, CEOs of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC), Kuwait Oil Company (KOC), Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC), Petroleum Industries Company (PIC), Kuwait Petroleum International (KPI) and Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Company (KUFPEC). KPC is in advance stages of discussion with ONGC regarding picking-up a stake in OPaL in Dahej, Gujarat.
During the delegation’s visit to Qatar, the delegation held fruitful meetings with CEOs and senior management of Qatar Development Bank, RasGas, Qatar Petroleum, Qatar Investment Authority, Muntajat among others. Qatar Chamber (QC) hosted a delegation from the Indian State of Gujarat, who introduced Qatari businessmen to investment opportunities available in the state.
Around 150 CEOs, Government officials and other delegates from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar are expected to attend Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit in January 2017 as a result of the Gujarat delegation visit. This could be the highest ever number in any Vibrant Gujarat so far.
The visit was also widely covered by top news papers and electronic media like Saudi Arab Gazette, Arab News, Press Reader Kuwait, Times Kuwait, Kuwait Times, Navbharat Times, etc..
